About
Tasmania is an Australian island state that lies to the south of the main Australian continent. It consists of the main island of Tasmania itself, together with a number of much smaller surrounding islands. The state is one of the most notorious locations in Australia due to its history as a destination for convicts transported from Europe, but it is also known as one of Australia’s most beautiful and ecologically important regions. The wildlife of Tasmania is unique even by Australian standards, with endemic species such as the Tasmanian Devil being found only on this island.
